Thanos Kararounas
Thanos has 20 years of professional experience in major events and international sport organisations. He holds a Bachelor in Sport Sciences and Physical Education and a Masters in Sports Management. He is also a Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) from the International Knowledge Management Institute.

He has worked for two Olympics (Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004) before joining the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2005, as an Information Manager in the Olympic Games Knowledge Management Programme. During his 9 years at the IOC, he served as Head of Information and Knowledge Management being involved in the planning and organisation of 7 Olympic and 3 Youth Olympic Games.
In 2014 he founded HIBOU Alliance, a strategic advisory network of international sport and event management professionals.

Since 2016 he is an active member of the Active Cities movement. Alongside a group of experts, he contributed to the development of the first international standard for active cities and he serves as a member of the core management team and Director of Strategy & Operations for Evaleo, the co-founder of the Active Well-Being Initiative and the Global Active Cities project.
